New Camera!!

I finally got myself a camera. Jeff had bought me one for my brithday a few years ago, but it was stolen. Some of you may know, I was in a weight loss challenge over the holidays here at my work. I ended up winning $100.00 and losing 7lbs! Win, win! So, today, they paid us our winnings. I went to Costco and bought myself a new Nikon Coolpix with the money. Yay! I'm so excited. This will be perfect for our romantic getaway to the Bahamas for Valentine's day! Yay... :)

Dream interpretations please???

Last night, I had 4 scary dreams. I can't remember all of the details to all of them, but one stuck and is really making me wonder. Here goes... I'm in a swimming pool at a house, it's sunny. Out of nowhere, a baby jumps or falls into the pool and is sinking. I immediately go under the water and frantically swim with all I have to try to grab the baby. It's a struggle, I can't reach the baby! Finally, I grab the baby and bring it to the surface. I pat it on the back and it talks to me and says "I'm okay." This baby was way too young to speak in full sentences, I would guess it was close to a year old or so. Anyway, I put it back on the side of the pool, and it dives back into the pool, straight to the bottom, this time it's not as deep. Again, I swam frantically to get it out, I reached it easily this time, but it was stuck to the bottom. Like it was cemented.

Dave Lane

As some of you already know, my father in-law, Dave has been diagnosed with cancer. It's in his bladder. He went in last year for a couple of different surgical procedures in hopes that they could get all of the bad from his body.

It came back! :( The doctors say bladder cancer is usually found in people who have smoked cigarettes their entire lives or been exposed to second hand smoke on a daily basis. Well, Dave has NEVER smoked a ciggy, but he worked as a contractor for most of his life, and there are a lot of construction workers who smoke!

This past week he went in for another check up and they found one of his tumors is an "in situ" tumor. Thanks to medterms.com... An "in situ" tumor is one that is confined to its site of origin and has not invaded neighboring tissue or gone elsewhere in the body. The term "in situ" is borrowed from the Romans. It means "in the natural or normal place" and, in the case of cancer, it is good news. It indicates that the tumor cells are still where they originated. They have neither entered neighboring tissues nor have they metastasized afar.

Well, that's a little bit more relieving!

Dave is undergoing a BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin)treatment for the next 6 months. From the research I've done for my own understanding, BCG is a chemical which is supposed to stimulate an immune response or cause inflammation of the bladder wall that destroys cancer cells within the bladder. So, it basically causes an infection in the bladder which is supposed to fight and hopefully kill the cancer. BCG has been used to treat stage 0 and I (superficial) cancer but is used most commonly to prevent the return (recurrence) of superficial bladder cancer. It is most often used after cancer has been removed from the bladder using transurethral resection (TUR) surgery.

Dave has been diagnosed with stage 1 cancer. I guess there are 4 or 5 different stages? I'm not too sure on that one, but Jeff and I are really glad it's not as bad as it could be. Dave is in surprisingly high in spirits and has such a positive attitude when he talks about it. He's just doing what he can, dealing with it day by day.

Nasty air outside

I just took a look out of my window and noticed how nasty the air is. I can't even see the mountains. It's brown and gross. Yuck. We should be getting a storm in the next couple of days that will move this crap outta here.

Lots of meat

Jeff got a deprivation tag for a cow elk this year. As some of you may know, he already killed an animal this year, a very freakish one! Because of how freakish it was, http://jeffandelise.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html we decided not to eat the meat, even though we were assured by experts it was completely fine. It's just a mental issue we have with it. Yuck! Anyway, we ended up giving all of the deer meat to some needy families in Fountain Green, UT. Good deed! Yay! : )
Saturday morning, Jeff headed out at about 4:20 am and was home by about 2:30pm with nothing. They spotted them, but they were too far away to take an ethical shot. So... Sunday morning, he left a little earlier at about 3:20am and was able to get a good shot.
So now, the cow elk, which was about 2 or 3, is at the butcher being prepared and packaged. I never knew how expensive this hunting thing really is. Wow.. couple hundred here, couple hundred there! Like it's nothing! Oh well, he loves it, and I love the all- natural meat!

Simply Sushi birthday party!

Wow! What a fun night! I couldn't believe the turnout and was so thankful for the love and support I have from such great friends.

Simply Sushi is a relatively new, all you can eat sushi place. Jeff and I have eaten at almost every sushi joint in the valley, and this one by far is our favorite. The fish is excellent, the staff is super friendly and the price is really unbelievable. Thanks to everybody who helped me celebrate my 27th.

P.S. this was the largest group they had waited on so far (they are new, remember?). Pictures were taken of our group for their website. As soon as it's up, I'll post it!

A little late... but better than never

Jeff and I have a couple of really great groups of friends. This group is one of my favorites. Jeff's friend, Brandon is a really fun guy, who always lives his life to the fullest, and is always doing something super fun! There really is never a dull moment! He is such a great host whether the party is at his house, his cabin or even a bar. Last year, right after Thanksgiving, we did a "friends" Thanksgiving up at his cabin which is kinda by Huntsville. We had yummylicious food, I made deviled eggs, and mashed potatoes. Yum! Lindsay and Jared brought yummy pies and Brandon made the turkey! It was such a great time and I really love having such great friends!

happy birthday to me!! : )

Today I am no longer 26, I am now 27. Wow! 27! I am content. I have no major regrets, and I feel like I'm getting the hang of this thing called life. I've finally realized who my true friends are, even if I don't speak to them in weeks,or even months and I've finally felt peace and comfort in letting the ones go who don't really matter. I feel I've blossomed into a beautiful flower! haha : ) just kidding. Anyway, thanks for reading my blog, have a great day!

Kaia Coco Lane

We adopted Kaia in July 2007 from Salt Lake County Animal Services. At the time of adoption, we had very little information about her past other than she had a microchip. The shelter had contacted her previous owners and they basically gave up on her and said they couldn't afford to get her out of lock up. This was her 2nd time there, and she just kept running away from them. The shelter wouldn't give me her previous name because they said it might bring back bad memories. If any of you have ever adopted an animal, you might share the same questions and curiousity. Recently, we had a friend who works at the shelter, look up her information. She told me that her previous name was Coco and her birthdate is 4/20/04! She was just over 2 when we adopted her and had already been locked up at least three times. The owners that had her right before us, adopted her from Wasatch Humane Rescue. I really don't understand why somebody would adopt an animal from a rescue group and then just give up on them... but then i forget there are people who give up on everything. Sad. We were really excited to find out this information on her past and know she is so much happier with us! I really think she knows how lucky she is to have Jeff and I for parents. She listens to us, and hasn't ever run away from us, even off leash. We love her and so does Rocky!
